In Matthew 24:13, Jesus declared an eternal truth that should carry great significance to anyone who desires to go to heaven. He revealed, "He that endures unto the end, the same shall be saved." The very fact that He made that statement communicates to us that on this journey of faith there are going to be times that we are challenged. In fact, it would lead us to believe that there are going to be times that we might be tempted to give up, give in, and turn back. So the Lord encourages us to endure.
Such was the case in the life of Shammah, one of David's mighty men. II Samuel 23 tells a story of how the Philistines, who were the enemies of Shammah, came to take what belonged to him and his people. The Bible records that everyone else ran and left their troops in the field for the Philistines. We can relate because we have an enemy. the Devil and a kingdom that desires to steal and forage the things of God from our lives. However, Shammah stood in the middle of the ground. He endured. The Philistine troops came down on Shammah and the Scripture records that he slew them. And the Bible said the Lord wrought a great victory!
If you and I choose to endure and stand our ground, we give God the opportunity to bring great victory in our lives. Don't give up ground to the Devil.
